L’album che segna l’esordio di un nuovo progetto per la riscoperta della musica tradizionale italiana. Folkatomik, band torinese formatasi a Torino nel 2019, parte dall’esperienza maturata nel mondo della riproposta delle musiche tradizionali da parte di Franco Montanaro, Oreste Forestieri e Valeria Quarta, e dall’incontro con il chitarrista e producer di musica elettronica Li Bassi.Nella sintesi delle esperienze e delle storie che ognuno portava con sé, nasce subito un sound unico e riconoscibile, riconducibile alla commistione fra la musica tradizionale del sud e avantgarde elettronica. I suoni evocativi e arcaici degli strumenti tradizionali, le cadenze ossessive e catartiche delle ritmiche coreutiche, unite ai colori e alla profondità dei suoni elettronici, creano un linguaggio fresco e contemporaneo, ma con forti e robuste radici. Gli strumenti acustici usati nei brani e che interagiscono con l’elettronica, sono strumenti tradizionali del Sud Italia e del mondo: tamburi a cornice, tamburelli, percussioni arabe, latine e africane. Chitarre portoghesi, très cubano, charango, bouzouki greco e mandolino. Flauti arabi, turchi, irlandesi e andini, friscaletti siciliani e flauti armonici, marranzani e percussioni minori. Le sonorità partono dal Sud Italia per arrivare ad abbracciare un Mediterraneo più grande e al quale il Sud culturalmente appartiene. Folkatomik gioca con diversi linguaggi musicali ispirandosi a luoghi, popoli, vicende e persone di tutto il mondo per creare un meticciato musicale figlio del meticciato culturale di Torino, città natale della band. L’intento è quello di dialogare attraverso il linguaggio universale della musica popolare, far conoscere a un più ampio pubblico la bellezza dei dialetti e delle sonorità del sud e promuovere le diversità facendole convivere sotto il tetto della musica da festa e da ballo, musiche che da sempre uniscono popoli e generazioni. Polaris, il titolo del primo album dei Folkatomik, è la Stella Polare, la stella più luminosa e più vicina al Polo Nord celeste, la stella che indica uno dei due punti di rotazione terrestre. Per i Folkatomik, Polaris è dunque una guida, una luce che fissa la rotta della partenza e che sarà in continuo mutamento.
